Explore the accidental and abstract side of art and discover your creative process in this exciting class! Go beyond the barriers of acrylic paint by adding a variety of materials to create super impasto paintings. Discover how to incorporate a range of mixed-media into your work and develop abstract and representational imagery from life, still life, and imagination. Stretch yourself to think in news ways, overcome creative blocks, or re-engage with your creativity!

Silkscreen Fundamentals

Get your Warhol on and explore art making in multiples! Whether you want to learn silkscreen as a fine art, for a business endeavor, or to make band t-shirts for sale at your next gig, this class is for you! Be guided through the foundations for the printing process while exploring various techniques for screen creation including stencils, block-outs, photo emulsion, and color registration to create multi colored works. No prior experience necessary! Course fee includes all materials and paper for printing on; if you want to print on t-shirts or other surfaces, you provide those. Leave with a firm understanding of this exciting process and with the confidence to continue it on your own in your studio, basement, or kitchen!

Accelerate your growth as an artist! This thoughtful, step-by-step class will guide you through an exploration of the face. Students will focus on people and portraits and gain a knowledge and understanding of the face, head, proportion, and structure, in order to draw evocative, expressive, and accurate portraits. Through a series of exercises and studies including work with pencil, charcoal, and chalk pastel, you値l see your skills develop each week as you hone your understanding of the structures underlying the face and your ability to render what you see. Mid-course, we値l break from conventions and take plaster casts of our own face then use these to inform our future work to better understand facial structure. Develop a sensitive understanding for color and learn to observe and capture light as it exists in the world around us.

This 101 sewing course will walk you through the steps of basic fashion sewing from A-Z and leave you dressed to the nines with a handmade skirt and more. You'll start with the very basics, like what a spool of thread is and how to set it up on a machine. Then work your way up, through hands-on projects, to create a skirt you値l be proud to show off! Learn basics of machine sewing techniques, fabric selection, and pattern reading while enjoying time with like-minded ladies (and really brave men)! Leave with a foundation to head home and create, sewing style. A limited number of sewing machines are provided; please let us know if you plan on bringing your own. Starter materials are included in, you値l need to purchase fabric and other materials based on your tastes and aesthetics after the first class.

Then sign up for our open studio program and meet other like-minded artists and join our creative community! You bring supplies and use our studios (and much of our tools/equipment, too). Gain helpful feedback on your work while working amongst peers in varied media. Join us if you want, to come sew on our sewing machines, work in clay, paint, or just have a regular time and meeting place to inspire creation!

Every painter has to start somewhere! Throughout this class, we will guide you through the painting basics with explorations focused on value, composition, and materials usage. Paint from still life, starting with simple forms and progressively working into more complicated arrangements while translating value into the wide-world of color. You will learn to paint what you see and gain sensitivity for observing and developing tone to create spatial impact. Towards the end of the session you値l start to gain awareness of your personal style and confidence about your skills. Let痴 get painting!

Using the fundamental elements of line, tone, shape and composition, this comprehensive course guides you through the foundations for drawing while you practice seeing the world in new ways. You can learn to draw! Explore materials usage with media including pencil, charcoal, and pastels. Hone your observational skills while considering compositional impacts in your work and experience an introduction to color. Be inspired by art history and work from still life. Maximize your picture taking abilities by learning photography basics and useful tips for turning your snapshots into works of art! We値l walk you through all the essential camera basics: camera functions, digitals file formats, composition, picture taking tricks, lighting, and flash work. Then we値l focus on uploading images to your computer, and simple editing, and printing techniques. You値l get hands-on through in-studio photo shoots and we値l view and discuss images printed outside of class. Whether your camera is point and shoot or SLR bring it to class with the owner痴 manual and later in the session, bring your laptop for in class photo editing practice.

Jewelry Basics: Beyond Beading

Calling all fashionistas and accessory aficionados; create your own one-of-a-kind jewelry! You値l be amazed at the quality of jewelry you can create with practice, material knowledge, and technical know-how. For all levels, this class will guide you beyond basic beading; make multi-strand beaded pieces, hammer, wrap, and twist silver wire with beads into pendants or use as components to earrings, bracelets, and necklaces. Create elegant lasso necklaces with chain and drop beads. And work with Precious Metal Clay, an amazing material that models like clay and, once fired, is 99.9% fine silver. Use it to create pendants, rings, and beads to incorporate into your designs! We値l provide materials for the first class along with all tools, equipment, stringing wire, and a small amount of silver clay. You値l want to shop for beads, findings (clasps and stuff), and wire that suit your aesthetics and ideas; we値l give you tips on where to buy and where to find great deals!
